Design Prep: Project Kick-off 

STEP 1: Information Call

  • After you fill out a New Client Inquiry Form, you will receive a link to schedule your Information Call with Charley. This call will be a chance to get to know each other, discuss the project, and lay out the best plan of action for your design needs.

  • All client projects are customized based on the scope of work and amount of design support required. See my service packages here.

  • You will receive a contract via email as well as an invoice to pay the Retainer to start your project.

Official Start of Project

STEP 2: Questionnaire + Consultation

  • Once the contract is signed, you will receive a New Client Questionnaire where you can share more details about your lifestyle and home design style with me.

  • Most projects begin with a 1-2 hour on-site consultation, where you will meet with Charley (in-person or virtually) to dive into your project, narrow down the scope, budget, and timeline for different aspects of the work. The more specific you can be with budget at this point in the project, the better. This consultation can also be used to trouble-shoot design decisions on the spot.

Concept and Style

STEP 3: Styling Presentation

  • Depending on the chosen design service, clients will receive a digital style board that showcases the look and feel of the design proposal and/or CAD floorplan drawings to relate more specifically any room modifications and layout changes. For clients who only scheduled a consult: links and product suggestions will be included here. For Full Service design, including whole home renovations, new construction, kitchen and/or bath renovations or full service sourcing for furniture and accessories in a specific room, this is the step where we get clear on the direction for the design. Up to two renditions of the Style Board will be proposed for each space- and we can tweak details until we get it just right. After the Style Board is approved, we will move on to the next steps.

Layout and Design

STEP 4: Space Planning

  • Most projects require a to-scale floorplan for furniture layout. Charley will share the layout for the main living spaces and a comprehensive list of furniture pieces for each room included in the design concept.

STEP 5: Finishes & Remodeling Consulting

  • For larger renovation projects, I offer cabinetry design, bathroom and kitchen design, general remodeling guidance, and project management.

  • During this phase, I will begin designing, sourcing, and selecting finishes including, materials, fabrics, finishes, lighting and plumbing fixtures, appliances, tile, paint, furniture, flooring, and other finishes pertaining to the project.

  • This step may include further drafting of floor plans with more detail and elevations of kitchens, baths, custom millwork, and architectural details.

  • In this step, Charley will recommend vetted, trusted trades to get quotes on materials and labor for any changes being made or items affected by the design from trim carpenter to HVAC to plumbing to electrical and more.  Should any need for structural changes occur, Charley will bring in a licensed architect or engineer to consult and make recommendations on the project, and in certain cases create drawings to indicate exact changes to be made.  Clients will enter in contracts directly with the various trades as needed.  

Order and Install

STEP 7: Furnishings & Decor Specifications

  • Clients will receive a proposal of all main furniture, decor, basic accessories for each room, and any finishes being ordered by Dear Charley Designs, LLC. Client has final sign-off on major furnishings. Styling projects may include assorted decor selected by my design team for your project.

STEP 8: Order Placement

  • All furniture in a design project must be ordered through Dear Charley Designs, unless specifically arranged ahead of time. All approved furniture items will be sent as an Invoice to be paid to Dear Charley Designs, LLC. Once the invoice is paid, we will manage the ordering, shipping, and delivery of all major furniture pieces. Furniture is invoiced and paid up-front. There are no returns for furnishings ordered through Dear Charley Designs. Any damaged or incorrect items are covered by our insurance and will be refunded or replaced by my team. (You don’t have to worry about it!)

STEP 9: Furniture Installation/Styling

  • Furniture & accessories will be delivered via our White Glove Delivery partner (as available). Our team will be on-site to supervise and assist with all finishing touches on installation day.

STEP 10: Project Wrap-Up

  • Any outstanding invoices will be issued (this is rare!). All lingering details will be worked out with our team (we want you to LOVE your space!) and professional photography of the brand new space will be scheduled.
